“A Conversation with Charlie Munger”

Here’s a link to two hours of armchair philosophizing from Warren Buffett’s partner Charlie Munger.

You can read the highlights in this excellent summary by Morgan Housel at The Motley Fool. And here’s Charlie on the topic of success:

The best way to get what you want in life is to deserve what you want. How can it be otherwise? It’s not crazy enough so that the world is looking for a lot of undeserving people to reward.

There you have it.

I have lost it for Munger and even the great wizard Warren. They only talk their book now. Munger stating that we should be thankful for bailing out banks and that individuals should shut up and cope is nutso. Unless you figure the bailout saved Uncle Charlie tons of dough through Wells Fargo.

He is amusing, but he is getting to be amusing like the crazy uncle who says some crazy stuff.

Yeah, that’s a good subject for another post. There are not many bigger fans of those two than me, but even I’ve been a bit baffled at the possible selection of Li Lu as the heir to Buffett on the investment side, as well as Berkshire’s investment in BYD to begin with. Thought the defense of Goldman at the annual meeting this year, too, was a bit off, as I think I mentioned in some comments here around that time.

I have seen elsewhere on the intertubes where Munger has been shredded for those “suck it up” comments he made in this video. Context is everything, of course, but it does seem absolutely plausible they’re both straying from what made ‘em a bit lately…
